Lancaster IMC re-load is on Sunday, 14. Dec, 2-6pm in The Basement (78a Penny St. Lancaster)

The idea of this event is to give a really basic intro to Indymedia, what
it is, how it works and how to work it. So people feel clued up and can
get involved in the local collective or the wider network, or just by
using the websites.
Note: it's NOT going to be too tecchie! computer illiterates welcome!

this is the timetable/ content so far (not finalised):

2-3pm
-quick go-round with names

-Then start with an intro session, outlining

*what's wrong with the mainstream media
*Indymedia history and network structure
*introducing IMC principles and membership criteria (all IMCs globally
agree to these)
*brief report on what IMC Lancaster has been up to

hopefully this won't take longer than an hour.

Then we break up into groups sessions, with hands-on skill share for two
hours. The idea is that each session runs twice for one hour, so people
can rotate and choose from all sessions.

we've only got the basement, so the idea was to have no more than 4
groups down there (this may be a squeeze already, any ideas for more
space nearby?).

3-5pm
-The sessions:

*communication channels of the Indymedia network (email lists, twiki,
Internet Relay chat IRC)

*group tools: consensus decision making & facilitation

*the websites: navigating round the site, open publishing, MIR admin


*open source codec and non-proprietary software

5-6pm
- End session/ Follow up hopefully we'll have about an hour left to come back together and talk
about where we want to go next. When does the local group meet, what do
we want to do etc.
(ideas include a monthly meeting, organising video screenings/ events,
website, organising a biggish media democracy conference,...)

-Evening: it would be nice to have a video screening and or Party and
food etc.
