What is the Bilderberg Group ?

Angry Manc | 02.12.2003 01:54

After the usual name calling of "consipracy nut" by the well known spooks among us, I would like to hear what people think of the Bilderberg Group of clandestine movers and shakers.

Great, they can see everything too!

This is how Disinfopedia describe them:

"The name Bilderberg came from the group's first meeting place, the Hotel de Bilderberg of Oosterbeek, Holland, in May 1954. Over the next 47 years the secret meetings have included most of the top ruling-class players from Western Europe and America. Until he was implicated in the Lockheed bribery scandal in 1976, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands served as chairman. By now Bilderberg is a symbol of world management by Atlanticist elites. Some observers, particularly those on the Right, feel that it borders on the conspiratorial, while the Left is primarily interested in its implications for what they call power structure research. The Bilderberg participants from the U.S. are almost always members of the Council on Foreign Relations, and since 1973 Japanese elites have been brought into the fold through a third overlapping group, the Trilateral Commission."

They continue:

"This does not constitute an official explanation for Bilderberg. However, this description appears to be consistently given on various international web sites. Narrative taken from Name Base web site.  http://www.namebase.org/sources/fC.html "

Google seems to list them under the following heading:

Category: Society > Issues > Business

Yahoo seems to disagree:

Categories: â?¢ Conspiracy > The Bilderberg Group

Unfortunately some people seem to be so confused by the "discovery" of this information that they lose all grounding and drift into a sort of neo-fantasy world. They replace the previous fantasy they lived in with a world consisting of an amalgamation of facts and the utterly ludicrous, thereby inviting ridicule:

"Former sports commentator of David Icke believes in the Bilderberg Group, but he believes that underneath their human skin there are twelve Lizard men ruling the earth."

This is from an article by Dan Ryntjes about Jon Ronson, in which Jon says:

"I crossed the line. I became the crazy people I'd been chronicling all these years. I did become a paranoid person believing it was all true."

The article continues:

"[Jon] Ronson suceeds in penetrating an isolated camp-site in America, helped by right wing conspiracy theorists, where he discovers a torchlit ceremony attended by powerful and rich men: "It's all true, they really do burn a human effigy in the belly of a 15th foot stone owl"."

[More about the "owl":  http://www.infowars.com/bg1.html ]

This is one of the few reference to the Bilderberg on the BBC's website, the other being the following news report:

"Elite power brokers' secret meeting"

 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3031717.stm

This article states:

"The meetings are cloaked in secrecy and participants rarely reveal their attendance, although this year's list is rumoured to include the American banker David Rockefeller and Henry Kissinger."

"What the group actually does is no clearer either, although it's known to be an extremely influential lobbying group with a good deal of political clout on both sides of the Atlantic."

The Guardian (UK) talk of Conrad Black's connections to the Bilderberg Group ("Lord" Black of Hollinger/Telegraph infamy):

"Such unashamed networking has seen Black rewarded with membership of the shadowy Bilderberg Group, the high-powered think tank that conspiracy theorists accuse of being an alternative global government."

Who are these people and what are they up to? One man on a mission to find out is Tony Gosling of Bristol, UK. He runs the site  http://www.bilderberg.org that documents some of the activities of this "power elite". Tony presents lists of participants and photos from these secretive meetings and I found out from his site that murdered Sweedish MP Anna Lindh was a Bilderberg participant. I also found the "Threats to this site" section near the bottom of the home page quite amusing!

People's thoughts on this subject are invited :)
