Dissertation Student Needs Your Help!

Request for assistance in sourcing archive material (News broadcasts) for paper on "independent media's role in the representation of global and individual truth's"

Dear Indymedia crew,

Hi, i am a 4th year visual culture student, writing my dissertation on “The role of independent media in the representation of individual and global truth’s”.

For my paper, I need to compare news footage, (Newspaper, Televisual, and Independent) from the beginning of the most recent invasion of Iraq (the 4 days from: 19-23/03/03).

Can you help? Perhaps you have some recorded footage of news broadcasts that would be of great value to me. Or newspaper cuttings, from those 4 days etc… I want a broad spectrum of news sources; I will pay for any costs in copying footage.

The paper aims to firstly compare the subjective approaches of 3 mediums of information distribution, TV, Newspapers and the Web, considering issues concerned with representation, cultural identity, cultural programming, propaganda, disinformation & distraction, etc…

Secondly I intend to make a suggestion towards a better mass media solution, one that recognises independent subjective approaches, and puts ‘truth’ above commercial appeal and political standing.

Thanks for your time.
Toby Barnett.
