STUDENTS IN PROTEST AGAINST STATE VISIT

Hundreds of student demonstrators today staged anti-war protests in Aberdeen.

Around 100 Aberdeen University students marched round the King's College campus in peaceful but angry protest.

And about another 100 demonstrated outside Marks and Spencer in the city centre.

They were objecting to President Bush's state visit to Britain.

Students outside the university's Elphinstone institute held aloft anti-war banners, placards and extracts from newspapers.

"We're here to talk about injustice," said philosophy student Stephen Reid, 20.

"The only means we have of telling Bush and Blair they are liars is by standing here.

"People are being indoctrinated by propaganda. We need to tell Bush and Blair we are not willing tools in their game."

Philosophy and religion student Jonathon Panter-Brick, 22, said: "Our government supports big business, not the people.

"We have to stop blindly following Bush and Blair."

Gary Gillespie, 22, an English student, said: "You can't trust Bush's lies and deceit.

"This demonstration is about showing people in power we are not going to listen to their lies.

"We need to make a difference."
