This year, Mrs Percy was charged after she spent two hours underneath one of the giant B-52 aeroplanes at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.

The non-violence campaigner was jailed for nine months in 1999 for trespassing on to MoD land at Menwith Hill and also served nine days of a 14-day sentence in 1992 for climbing over a perimeter fence and trespassing at RAF Alconbury.

In April 2001, Mrs Percy hit the headlines again when she was cleared of disorderly behaviour after she was accused of forcing a United States citizen to drive over the Stars and Stripes flag during a protest.

And in December of the same year, the peace protester won a High Court challenge to a conviction over defacing the American flag at a US airforce base.

Lindis Percy is one of the UK's most commited campaigners against the dubiously legal occupation by the USA military of huge tracts of our most beautiful countryside. She has challenged the US military through the courts over and over again, and with Anni Rainbow in the Campaign for Accountability of American Bases has waged a major campaign to make the US accountable for their actions here in the UK and in the rest of the world.

On the day the B52 bombers first arrived at USAF Fairford at the beginning of March 2003, she sat quietly beneath a wing in the dark, with her upside down US flag draped on its wing.

CAAB has its base at Menwith Hill in North Yorkshire, home of the huge 'golf ball' Radomes which control the US Star Wars system and European wing of the Echelon spy monitoring equipment . There are weekly vigils at the main gate at Menwith, Lindis and Anni have been monitoring what's going on there since the early 1980s.

Visit Lindis and Anni and CAB supporters each Tuesday on the moor outside Menwith Hill spy base from 6-9pm, send postcards and letters of support for her inspiring action at the gate of Buckingham Palace today. And if you can't get down to London, go to Menwith Hill on 19th!

If Bush was god, that would be like Satanist, wouldn't it?
It makes me sad though that all those protesters were in London and then 27 folk get killed in Istanbul. They could have flown over and been used as human shields if only we were more organised.
But then there will always be what ifs!
