Sheffield shoppers were today attracted by samba sounds in the city centre.

Large crowds stopped and listened as Sheffield Samba Band played on Fargate. Leaflets were given out with the message Bush Not Welcome and details of ways to voice displeasure about his visit in both Sheffield and London. People received the flyers greatfully and there was a general feeling of disgust about Bush's visit.

Don't forget the demo

Sheffield Samba were great, but it's interesting that this is all that is published here. Before I set off today, all I knew about was the "regional" protest / march which was taking place today. Sheffield Samba Band started on some steps, giving us a good start to the pre-demo rally. Then they dropped down the hill to where the made music until our demo had gone round the circuit, at which point they joined us as they came back up to the demonstration. Then they went down the hill again, where we leafleted as they made yet more music.

bring the music to the people - top stuff,
it seemed for some of the demo barkers pool was a no-go zone for commoners, while in fargate the samba band got in touch with the people.

spreading awareness

translator has understood what the Band was trying to do - just spread awareness over a slightly larger area - we had a leaflet we were giving out to publicise anti-Bush stuff in both Sheffield and London during the coming week
