Hail to the Chief

George Bush needs to be pictured with the Queen to impress voters in the forthcoming presidential election, but, says Peter Oborne, next week’s state visit by the Commander-in-Chief is causing chaos

It is obvious why Tony Blair agreed that next week’s visit to Britain by George Bush was a good idea. It was suggested in the aftermath of the invasion of Afghanistan. The Blair–Bush relationship was at its strongest, and the transatlantic alliance at its most formidable: the Iraq war yet to come.

Over the past few weeks, Downing Street, the White House and Buckingham Palace have been urgently coming to terms with an invitation issued rather too casually when the world was a different place. It is causing chaos. In the palace, where the imminent arrival of the President is in certain respects a welcome distraction from the Prince Charles crisis, Prince Philip is loudly harrumphing that he feels ‘under siege’....

My Reply from Buckingham Palace re the Toxic Texan

14.11.2003 08:17

I wrote to the queen re the George W Bush visit.

The reply I got from Buckingham Palace as I expected but what the fuck, at least I've registered my disgust at the visit of The Toxic Texan to his Quisling.
The letter reads:-

Dear Mr XXX

The Queen has asked me to thank you for your recent letter expressing your views on the State Visit of the President of the United States. Your comments on the Visit have been carefully noted.

Invitations to Heads of State to undertake a State Visit to this country are extended by Her Majesty on the advice and guidance of her Government Ministers and are in the interests of bilateral exchanges between the two countries.

Yours Sincerely
Mrs Margaret Taylor
Senior Correspondence Officer.

ends.

So reading between the lines it seems that Brenda is saying don't blame me, its Blair's fault the Chimp is coming, Bliar me to do it.

Who's Mr XXX?

14.11.2003 08:38

Who's Mr XXX? Is that how radicals do it now in England? Call themselves by XXX, BJBJ, or IQLOW or some such random combination of capital letters? We're so behind in the states, really.

After all, we still have the courage to put real names to our comments. So very outmoded, really....

He is not to be allowed to wear his cowboy outfit.

Yes, it is an interesting article, especially remembering the main problem with these neocon publications - Conrad Black and the Perle connection...

Americans are waking up to the Bush/PNAC disaster

14.11.2003 09:14

An embarrassed British Queen will not win many votes for Bush Jnr.
The poodler Blair may crack too, as he is more informed about the effects of the insane USUK attack.

It is a grass roots wakening in the US, as they see the results Bush cartel stupidity and greed based "policies" .. the internet is helping too, educate them about the realities of the rest of the non-English speaking world. Would the US like Iraqi armed men occupying

The underclass being sent to die for upper class profits, the WMD lies, Prescott Bush Nazi connection, 9/11 cover-up, covert P2OG activities, Enron inspired California "power crises", the 1,700 US maimed in Iraq, the US war crimes of cluster bombs and the USUK DU effects, the 55,000 Iraqis slaughtered for oil and weapons' profits, the ignorance of international law, electronic election rigging etc.

As the Bush cartel panics, and truth surfaces, some even sillier things may be on the cards.

on a technical point...

14.11.2003 10:36

The first visit by Bush to the UK overlapped with his first visit to Ireland.
It took place during the declared phase of the US/K war on Iraq.
Bush spent less than thirty hours during the 8th and 9th of April
at the castle of Hillsborough in what is most definitely termed "Northern Ireland".
You don't get much more "Northern Ireland" than Hillsborough Castle, the former residency of the representative of the British Crown in "Northern Ireland".
It has a reputation for being "impregnable", I thought it odd at the time that the only sortie the President of the USA made out of his "homeland" was to pass a few hours in my country with Mr Blair in what perhaps is one of the British Crown's least welcoming accomodation options.
I have thus come to the conclusion that the "House of Windsor" wish see Bush 2.
All very well for them, the curiosity must be galling.
I do not feel the need to write a letter to the British Crown or it's representatives on this matter, and shall instead just carefully drop the idea into conversation, comments, news articles, radio show phone-ins, satelite feeds, posters in the background of action shots, historical documentaries, the top forty MP3 playlist and naturally children's TV.

I hope everyone @ united kollectives enjoys the spectacle.
