Case dismissed against one of Fairford Gate 3

not the oxstu :) | 14.11.2003 00:09 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Oxford

The charge of criminal damage to Fairford main gate was dropped against
one of the defendants today. One free, two to go!

The judge ruled that (in the case of one of the defendents) the video evidence wasn't enough to require any defence, and agreed that he had 'no case to answer'. But the trial continues against our remaining two 'gate-destroying' heros... so get down to Gloucester Crown Court tomorrow (court 2) to support them (or even better, do a solidarity action... just use your imagination!

"It's a big relief", he said "This has been hanging over me for a long time now, and I'm really glad to have it over with. Now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for the other two, hoping the jury have some sympathy and understanding of what happened."

bad news

That was the good news; the bad news is that today, the other two were found guilty, despite it being blatantly obvious that the prosecution were lying (or, at the very least, exaggerating) about the extent of the damage to the gate.

Blatantly obvious to us, anyway. Obviously not to the jury?! I guess we'll never know.

They were both given a two year conditional discharge, with Geoff also being given 500 compensation (to the poor old traumatised MoD... aaah).

In answer to the above questions, the defendent whose case was dropped is Owen, and I was there for all three days of the trial, which is how I know. :)
