Have 'Faith' in Liverpool Resistance!

People Not Profit | 13.11.2003 23:15 | Culture | Social Struggles | Liverpool

Liverpool City Council is planning a year of 'Faith in the City' for 2004 as part of the run-up to the 2008 Culture of Capital. According to their website, they want to celebrate "the beliefs, passions, good deeds and contributions made by all the city’s citizens – from the oldest to the youngest – which make Liverpool such a special city".

Of course, religious groups will get most of the coverage. But Liverpool has a proud history of working class "beliefs, passions, good deeds and contributions" which need to be highlighted now more than ever.

A substantial amount of funding will be made available to groups who wish to celebrate their beliefs, and People Not Profit want to make use of the opportunity to highlight Liverpool's spirit of resistance.

We need to put-forward a proposal in the next couple of weeks, so if you have any ideas on how we can celebrate working class culture in a creative way (with or without funding), please come to our meeting at the Bronte Community Centre, Trowbridge Street (by the Bullring, off Brownlow Hill) this Monday (17th) at 6pm.

Whose 'funding'

'A substantial amount of funding...' From whom and to whom
and for what purposes- have i just arrived from Planet X or isn't it
true that as soon as you take any kind of 'funding' from those you
hope to criticise you effectively newter yourself of any real independent opinion.
Just look at the Statist Drones who have inhabited the NUS over the years
and staged-managed one meek demo after another. If your goin to reclaim some
history-fine but don't do it as a glossy, A4 mag given away at sad 'community outreach
worker' shindigs.
