LET'S STOP THE CITY ON 20TH NOVEMBER!

x | 11.11.2003 18:15 | Bush 2003

It's pretty clear that the main demonstration against Bush's visit will be 20th November with transport being organised from across the country.

The US government is now instructing the metropolitan police that there must be a large exclusion zone around Bush - no doubt argued on security grounds but in fact to avoid TV pictures of Bush being booed and heckled by the British public which has consistently opposed Bush's wardrive.

The Stop the War Coalition march on 20th November has been told to re-route, effectively by the Whitehouse, so it does not go through Parliament Square or Whithall. Just take that in a minute - the US government is dictating where British people representing the majority opinion of the British public can march or not in Britain. STWC will no doubt complain and then go along with whatever the police want.

Let's not.

Let's ignore their rules - and their stupid cordons - and demonstrate where we want, not where it suits Bush's PR needs. When the US invaded Iraq 2,000 Americans were arrested in San Francisco alone as they stopped streets, redirected traffic and stopped the city in its tracks. That level of militancy is something we should be aiming for in response to Bush's obscene visit to this country.
