Georgie Porgie

Take a good look at the photo. Would you welcome any of them into your home?

I wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them. In George's case that's as
far as I could drag him spreading his slime all over the floor.

Yuk!

The @nti war movement can be so much more.

Inspite of being a SWaPpy, I do wonder how many people realised that the aim of this meeting was really to create a new party to replace the Socialist Alliance and take over Britain? The publicity just talked about a cross roads and a solution being needed, not of a forced agenda. Ah well, it may be the closest thing to a trully worthwhile socialist option, in which case we just have to play ball I guess...

Is Georgie Boy still saying he needs £150k per year to make ends meet?

What a working class hero he is LOL

Racist comment

09.11.2003 20:29

"Pudding and Pie"'s sneering comment appears racist to me. This person apparently wouldn't invite an Asian person, Salma Yaqoob, on the far right of this photo, into his/her house. Why hasn't it been deleted, UK Indymedia? It contravenes the editorial guidelines.

The SWP'a and Galloway's "crime" is that they want to build an alliance with British muslims mobilised into action by the Iraq War. This is obviously too advanced an idea for the Islamophobic white British left.

Chris

Not racist

09.11.2003 23:40

No, "Pudding and Pie" isn't being racist. I don't see anything to imply that the reason for distrusting these *four* people is the race of *one* of them. Indeed, the strongest comment is reserved for Galloway. Fight racism all the way, but don't start hallucinating it just because, with great effort, you can twist someone's comment so that it can be interpreted as such.

...

That won't wash

10.11.2003 00:46

Sorry "---", but your shameless apologetics won't wash.

The appropriately named "Pudding and Pie" said:

"Take a good look at the photo. Would you welcome any of them into your home?...I wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them...Yuk".

It can be see that the Asian woman in the photo, Salma Yaqoob, visited this page and read this comment. Can you imagine how she must have felt reading it? I think her reply says it all. She obviously felt insulted and didn't feel disposed to waste too much breath replying.

Is this the way we are going to build trust and a political relationship between between Asian anti-war activists and the white left? I think not.

Is it too much to ask that, instead of disingenuous apologetics, she should receive a public apology on this page from the racist idiot that wrote it?

Don't hold your breath.

And when is this comment going to be "hidden"???

Chris

Insult to CND leader

10.11.2003 01:12

"Pudding and Pie" also insults the woman on the far left of the photo, Rae Street, who is chair of the Greater Manchester CND and a long standing campaigner for peace and justice.

WHAT HAS SHE DONE TO DESERVE THIS KIND OF COMPLETELY UNPROVOKED ATTACK?

Another apology is needed.

When IS this insulting post going to be hidden, UK Indymedia?

Bill

I spy a troll

10.11.2003 01:24

> It can be see that the Asian woman in the photo, Salma Yaqoob, visited this page and read this comment.

No, it can be seen that someone posted a comment using her name. It might be her, but it could have been me, you, or anybody else. Past experience suggests that people posting under other real people's names is fairly common, especially with names related to the article in question.

I don't in any way deny that the comment in question was insulting -- that was quite clearly the intention. But the mere fact that one of the people it was directed at is Asian does not make it a *racist* insult. It appears not to be motivated by her race, but more by the fact that they are all on a platform with Galloway, for whom the author appears to have a strong dislike (which I don't particularly share by the way, but that's beside the point).

Now go and do something more useful than trolling the newswire.

Unfair maybe but not racist

10.11.2003 01:34

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous to say that was racism by him/her. The point whether you agree with it or not was clearly, that these groups have agendas.

And it seems a lot of people wonder that about the SWP.

Andrew

Lions and Tigers and SWP, Oh my!

10.11.2003 12:12

"....these groups have agendas."

Shock! Horror! Peace campaigners actually have political views and "agendas" about other stuff! Socialists actually want to build a socialist movement! Help! Help!

Seriously you lot, get a grip.

Why is it so frightening to you lot that an avowedly socialist party like the SWP or the SP or the SA wants to push its agenda and its policies? Of course it does!

I'm anarchist myself, but I hope a pragmatic one and it does us no good running screaming from anyone who looks like they're more than just a single-issue geek.

The only war worth fighting is the class war, after all.

As for the alleged racism of Galloway-baiter "Pudding and Pie", I think both sides are wrong.

The original comment was stupid, mean-spirited and ignorant, but it wasn't "racist", at least not in any way that matters outside of a students' union bar.

Can we all get on with opposing Bush and the war now please? Thank you.

Grow Up

10.11.2003 13:45

How can any of you expect to be taken seriously? The original comment about Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie is the only constructive one on here. How would a curious onlooker percieve this? A point is made, i suppose in a juvenile manner(i found it funny by the way)and instead of an intelligent debate growing out of it, you all go mental calling each other names. You spend all your time talking about whether Pudding and Pie was right to take the piss out of Galloway and no time about Galloway himself. Go figure.
This is however an entirely insignificant issue when contrasted with the moron who starts throwing round accusations of racism. If i said i didn't want George Galloways Crew from the photo, in my house, that is what i would say. The only person who is focussing on skin colour is the fool who started shouting racist, racist. It wasn't an issue till you made it one.

Big Fun

great

you over sensitive PC idiots. there are no racist comments on this page. you have again made yourself look pretty stupid. WELL DONE!
