First year students staying in Halls of Residence this year , for one, have found themselves being charged £100 for data-points for computer connection, irrelevantly of whether they own a computer or not, or whether they actually want these data-points or not. They have also found that a large number of contracts now available are binding for 37 weeks rather then the usual 31. As a consequence many will have to pay the University for an extra 6 weeks of accommodation, during which time it is highly unlikely that they will be residing there.

Further, students are also protesting against the indiscriminate selling off of the University's family accommodation to private landlords, with no plan of replacement.
