Firefighters in new pay protest

Firefighters across Britain are working to rule in an unofficial protest at a decision not to honour a pay deal....

Fire stations in parts of Scotland, the Midlands, Yorkshire and Wiltshire are refusing to do any work other than answer 999 calls.

A spokesman for the Fire Brigades Union said they could not condone the action but they understood the frustration and anger of members.

The unions Scottish Chairman Roddy Robertson said their argument wasn't with the public, but with the employers - and therefore they would still be answering emergency calls.

Last night union leaders said they were seeking urgent talks with the employers after it emerged that firefighters would not receive a seven percent pay rise from November.

They will receive 3.5 percent now and the rest next year.
