Oxford "Stop the Wall" protest meeting

Jane | 03.11.2003 21:34 | Anti-militarism | Free Spaces | Repression | Oxford

Help needed in Oxford to raise awareness of the apartheid wall being built in the West Bank.

November 9th is International "Stop The Wall" Day, with protests and actions to raise awareness of the apartheid wall being built in the West Bank.

There will be our own "wall building" on Tuesday 4th November at Simon's Yard, Magdalen Road (opposite the Cycle shop) from 10:30 - all very welcome!

The plan is to build large sections of wall from cardboard which people will then "wear", linking arms to form an inpenetrable security shield!

Artists are also sought to decorate a large section of wall (think graffiti). Bring paint and slogans!

If Israeli's wanted to be safe they shouldn't have occupied somebody else's country and forced the inhabitants to leave their homes at gunpoint.

I think the Palestinians have been extremely patient waiting 50 years living in squalid camps having more land and water stolen from them daily and humiliated repeatedly before they started systematically targetting Israeli civilians. But the Israeli's didn't they started shooting children from day one.

Yes, we Israelis were shooting from day one, same as the Palestinians. Neither side is innocent.

There were needless massacres carried out by the Israelis, such as at Tantura:

...the King David Hotel, Sabra & Shatila, Qana, Hebron, and all the rest of the inconvenient bits of history, now coming to light thanks to brave Israeli scholars like Ilan Pappe, who see no point in hiding from the truth any longer:

Tear down the wall. Bring the war criminals to justice, from both sides. Give us a chance for peace.

One last thing: I urge you to come visit Israel and Palestine, and see the truth for yourself: how we live, how the Palestinians live, how we treat them, how they are driven to futile acts of desperation by our policies, how Israeli Arabs are third-class citizens here. Put down your book, switch off your PC, and come see for yourself.

If everyone in your country was more like you then the region would not be the almost inconceivably fucked up mess it is. Sad innit?
