The distributed library project is part of an experiment in sharing information and building community. Unfortunately, the traditional library system doesn't do much to foster community. Patrons come and go, but there is very little opportunity to establish relationships with people or groups of people. In fact, if you try to talk with someone holding a book you like - you'll probably get shushed. The Distributed Library Project works in exactly the opposite way, where the very function of the library depends on interaction.

Distributed Library Project:
The distributed library project is part of an experiment in sharing information and building community. Unfortunately, the traditional library system doesn't do much to foster community. In fact, if you try to talk with someone holding a book you like - you'll probably get shushed. The Distributed Library Project works in exactly the opposite way, where the very function of the library depends on interaction.
Anti-Systemic Library:
The principals of an anti-systemic library is that it does not have a catalogue, i.e. a heirarchical organisation of knowledge. Instead it needs bibliographies. These bibliographies could be attached to wikipedia pages providing a discrete place where those interested could see what books and websites related to the topic. Or some other system of categories may be used. The bibliography relates to wiki pages of the book and reviews of the book. By using what links here, it will thus be possible to see what bibliographies a given text appears.
It will then be possible for libraries with a particular text to add their name to a list of locations so that interested readers can find the most convenient copy if they want to read it. These anti-systemic libraries considered as a whole can be called 'The Anti-systemic Library'.
