Asylum seeker sent home is killed

Kevin Meaney | 27.10.2003 20:38 | Migration | Oxford

Jon Snow claimed on this evening's news that Britain would never reject an asylum claim knowing that there was a chance that the asylum seeker would be killed when sent home. It would be good to be able to challenge this.

Monday 27 October 2003

I was wondering if there are any documented cases of asylum seekers being killed after being sent home. I am sure that there must be documented cases, but I have no idea how to find the information, or even how to go about forcing channel 4 to make a retraction. It is this sort of unchallenged comment that helps viewers believe that everything is there to support the asylum seekers.

but they are a bit toothless in these matters, they rejected the complaints about biased coverage of the Iraq war a few months back, but here is the adderss if you want to give it a go:  http://www.itc.org.uk Also could be worth complaining directly to Channel 4, the link to the C4 News contact page is  http://www.channel4.com/news/about_us/contact.html

There definately have been some cases of asylum seekers who were returned to their countries of origin and killed but we are not sure where they are documented. Some places to start looking may be the refugeecouncil, the Immigration Advisory Service or JCWI. These are some of the larger refugee voluntary/campaigning organisations. They all have websites.
