PARLIAMENT WARNED OF PALESTINIAN CORRUPTION

JEW | 23.10.2003 12:13

The Board of Deputies has submitted evidence to the inquiry into 'Development Assistance and the Palestinian Territories' currently being conducted by Westminster’s International Development Committee.

Long concerned over the misuse of funds donated by Britain and the European Union to the Palestinian Authority, the Board’s evidence focused upon the diversion of budgetary resources for the purposes of personal gain and terrorism.

Board of Deputies Director General Neville Nagler commented “In recent years there has been abundant evidence that funds provided to the Palestinian Authority from EU sources have been diverted for improper or criminal purposes, either to support terrorism or to enrich the leadership of the Palestinian Authority. Terrorism and corruption are embedded in the culture of the PA. There is therefore a special responsibility on all agencies which support the Palestinian economy in any way to ensure that funds made available for legitimate development needs are not diverted for improper or terrorist purposes.”

While the Select Committee’s mandate did not explicitly cover this aspect of Palestinian financing, Neville Nagler continued: “In the view of the Board of Deputies, the Select Committee cannot examine objectively the availability of development assistance in the Palestinian territories without assessing the extent to which at least a part of the assistance provided over the past years has been siphoned off for other nefarious purposes.”

So all those IDF attacks on innocents are motivated merely by rage at corruption in the PA?

No reason not to keep splatting refugee camps with F16's and Merkava tanks then.

what else we need to know

I believe the "Board of Deputies" is a jewish organisation ?

To appraise the truth/significance of this potentially biased claim we would need to know more, such as:

How big is the funding under question, and what percentage is being applied to purposes outside the intentions of the donor ?

How do these figures/percentages compare with the $13billion received by Israel from the US this year? I understand a huge amount of this carries a requirement that military equipment must not be used against civilians or other than in a real war. This applies, for instance to Apache helicopters.

If someone can give us the link to the precise wording of these conditions, that would be helpful.

These very conditions are of course daily violated, so that this funding is in fact illegally misdirected.

My guess is that this misdirection of funds and equipments would total at least 1000 times the value of everything the palestinians get, let alone redirect.

This does not of course excuse any palestinian misbehaviour. Just gives us some perspective.

And please don't tell us that much of this US money is loans. Research it. This is to deceive the US taxpayer. Historically it is always retrospectively converted into a special category of "loan" which is in fact a grant.
