What the fuck

WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today called for the reassignment of a top U.S. general who says he is in "the army of God" and claims Muslims worship an "idol."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is responding to investigative reports by the Los Angeles Times and NBC News that paint Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin as an "intolerant extremist...who believes that Islam is an idolatrous, sacrilegious religion against which we are waging a holy war." In a discussion of his efforts to capture a Muslim Somali warlord, Boykin said, "I knew my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol."

Speaking in uniform before a Christian group in June, Boykin claimed "radical Islamists" hate America "because we're a Christian nation, because our foundation and our roots are Judeo-Christian...and the enemy is a guy named Satan." Our "spiritual enemy," Boykin said, "will only be defeated if we come against them in the name of Jesus."

Boykin, the new deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence, is assigned to track down Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and other high-profile targets in the Muslim world.

"The idea of god implies the abdication of human reason & justice; it is the most decisive negation of human liberty & necessarily ends in the enslavement of mankind both in theory & practice. He who desires to worship god must harbor no childish illusions about the matter but bravely renounce his liberty & humanity." - Mikhail Bakunin

Fuck all gods

Erm, no

S'happens that only by taking a fundamentalist approach to God (Jahweh) do I get any lack of freedom. A broader view, something many, but not all, Americans are incapable of, would point to a God who gives us freedom to choose between what is good, and what is bad. This is a very difficult situation, true. It means that God has let bad things happen, because he loves us and wants us to choose how our life is run. There is much debate over how much God plans people's lives and how much it relies upon personal desire. St Paul says that in Christ, he can do anything, but not everything is wise to do. And I don't think anyone would question the latter part of that statement. Many of the things God doesn't want us to do, would actually harm us anyhow.
Fundamentalist Christianity is an excuse to get the Republican Party in power, go to war, wreck the environment, and give control of our destinies to big business. It just happens to mention the word "God" a lot.
