Iran - The Conditions of a Few Political Prisoners

With the start of the new academic year, Amin Bozorgian, Meysom Joulaee, Vahid Sazegara and many more active students have been summoned to the courts. After a long period of imprisonment, Mehdi Aminzadeh has been finally released, however it must be noted that the cases for the freed students are still in possession of authorities.

Manoochehr Mohammadi, Economist major and prisoner since the July 1999 unrest, has recently been sentenced a more year imprisonment and flogging for his participation in interviews with persian radio stations abroad.\

It must be noted that Manoochehr Mohammadi was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment in the aftermath of the July 1999 student demonstrations.

Kourosh Sahati and Farzad Hamidi are currently held captive in Ghasr prison. Amir Abbas Fakhravar has been released on a temporary basis from Ghasr prison. Student activists from the July 1999 student demonstrations in Tehran University, Abbas Deldar, Ahmad Batebi, Akbar Mohammadi and Behrouz Javid Tehrani all remain captive in Evin prison.

Dr. Nasser Zarafshan has returned to prison after a 16-day temporary leave. Akbar Ganji, Ali Afshari, Abbas Abdi, Reza Alijani, Taghi Rahmani and Tirani remain imprisoned. After a period of hunger strike, Mohsen Sazegar has been released from prison.

Abbas Amir Entezam has been temporarily released from prison. Despite his dangerous health and being, Mehrdad Lohrasbi has still not been granted release from prison. Heshmatollah Tabarzadi and Hashem Aghajari remain captive in unit 350. There is no information regarding the condition of Hassan Zarezadeh.

Saeed Kamaliha and Omid Abbas Gholinejad remain captive in Evin prison. Reza Ameli has been transferred to Gohardasht prison.
