Cambridge traffic set to worsen - Transport 2000 campaign

On Tue 30 Sept 2003 a public inquiry started into a proposal to dual the A428

Common sense suggests that this would exacerbate Cambridge's traffic problems --
and the last thing the city needs is more cars coming in from the west or any
other direction. The Highways Agency claim to have figures which show that the
extra traffic using the dualled route would not be "new" but would come off
other routes, but is this really a tenable position -- especially as it didn't
form part of their original statement of case ? (The 1994 report of the Standing
Advisory Committee on Trunk Road Assessment, which has been accepted by the
Government, states that more road capacity does lead to extra traffic,
especially where the existing network is close to capacity, as is the case here
at peak times.)
Transport 2000 Cambs & W Suffolk is pushing for an alternative scheme involving
a combination of bus priorities, better public transport, and park & ride. For

wasn't till after this newsletter was written that we received the Highways

Answers to the local traffic problems

It is all the bloody oil's problems.
Every oil country with oil is also 'dead' due to our habits. (Saudi, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Venuzela....)
Do not forget to hit it where it matters. The oil merchants are in a mess right now (however much they spin it to look like its all rosy).
In my humble opinion the more relevant development in Cambridge in news is the concrete proof that we are murdering in cold blood the Iraqi babies and grand mothers as we read this.
"No uranium, no munitions, no missiles, no programmes (JUST BLOOD and OIL!)"
Please connect the issues of traffic/congestion/death of our cities to the much more important dirty trade in fossil fuels and the even more important, dangerously helpless, suffering of the innocent Iraqis at the hands of our thugs.
