EVICTION OF KASA DE LA MUNTANYA ON OCTOBER 2nd TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED.

THE DEMONSTRATION OF OCTOBER 1ST AT 8 P.M IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF GRÀCIA WILL TAKE PLACE

Today September 30, the tribunal nº6 of Barcelona has agreed the suspension of the eviction of Kasa de la Muntanya, foreseen for October 2nd.

This temporary suspension comes motivated by a delay in the resolution (procedure defects) of the appeal presented against the order of eviction.

From Kasa de la Muntanya we have believed opportune to suspend the concentration from October 2nd at 8 a.m in front of the house, but unless the judge has not solved our judicial appeals, we will remain threatened by the eviction.

Likewise we consider of vital importance to maintain the demonstration of October 1st in Gràcia and to make a call to all the other mobilizations summoned during the Journeys to defend free spaces and against evictions

Last but not least, we want to thank all the people, groups and collective for their solidarity and support, without which we wouldn’t even have achieved this postponement. Even this way, we want to make a warning: Kasa de la Muntanya, as well as the rest of squats and social centers, remain in danger, under serious threat of eviction. We will continue working for the defense of the liberated spaces.

Yesterday it was learned that the eviction had been suspended at the 11th hour on some spurious technicality. In reality it seems that the city are shitting themselves and withdrew from a confrontation. Reasons may be that KDLM lies on the edge of Parc Guell one of the cities' premier tourist attractions. In a city that shamelessly self-promotes itself tourists witnessing a riot would be bad for business. It would also mess up the traffic in a substantial part of the city.

Forum 2004 which runs from May-Sep next year is the latest trash 'cultural' event set for the city. You'll doubtless hear about it in the UK. Once more it is an opportunity for speculators, big business and the corrupt city hall to make it large. KDLM plus other threatened social centres such as Ateneu De Korneya (16 years old), Les Naus (9 years old) are threatened largely because of this event. Les Naus an artistic rather than an overtly political social centre lies in the heart of the Gracia barrio and is worth a fortune thanks to the yuppified area.

Plans had been made to defend KDLM with fluffy protestors at the front to molotov throwers at the back, and everyone was predicting a serious riot. KDLM is seen here as a 'flagship' for the squatting movement, since its inception 20 years ago. A movement from which political action has come. Thus if the squatting movement is threatened the social and political movements are threatened also.

Last night a 500 strong demo wound its way through Gracia to KDLM well-targetted graffiti was combined with a city council office entrance being literally bricked-up The demo stopped on the steep hill leading up to KDLM as fireworks lit up the sky.
