Where are the local themes?

its good to see social forums growing, but this just looks like a Globalise Resistance conference. Please tell me I am wrong, but I cannot see the relevance of many of these workshops to many poor and working class Mancunians. here are the workshops on housing/poverty, crime and drugs, etc, on gentrification? (going crazy in mancs.)Unless the forums tackle real local concerns and not a purely internationalist agenda they will just attract the same people and may ultimately fail.,

please think outside of the box of your/our own backgrounds/prejudices, ideologies, etc...

here are the local themes

We have people coming from the pankhurst centre, workers and volunteers form a local adult literacy centre that's facing closure, some of the electricains that have been on strike since last may, community anti-racism groups from oldham, people involved in a campaign against gentrification from swinton, communinty artists and refugees and people working with them have also played an important role in the people's assembly/social forum.

Besides the idea is to create an open space where any issue can be discussed. If you don't think the right things are being talk about get involved and change that.

so please think outside of your own narrow background/prejudices/ideology before making such knee jerk criticism.

Yes, please come - we want Manchester Indyemdia to come too!

There is a workshop on the alternative media in the morning at which Manchester indymedia could make an invaluable contribution.

Don't let political phobias prevent you from attending. Life is too short.
