For several hours Merseyside Police set up a 'stop and search' zone in the Tuebrook/Anfield area of the city.

The car park opposite Anfield Community Comprehensive school was turned into a Merseyside Police ‘stop and search’ zone for several hours from 7.00pm on Friday 26th September 2003. The ‘random’ stop and searches took place with police officers directing cars into the main car park, where drivers and passengers were asked to step out of the vehicle and were promptly searched using an aggressive pat down search by the Operational Support Group(OSG). Merseyside Police have been stepping up intimidation and using unnecessary force in the area for the past few weeks. Local young people are becoming annoyed at being the targets of discrimination and have found themselves being searched for “over 30 minutes” for no apparent reasons.

More to follow soon...
