Oxford Postal Workers On Strike

richarddirecttv & keiran b | 25.09.2003 10:21 | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | London | Oxford

Oxford postal workers voted for continued strike action in the face of management's attempts to break their union, the CWU.

Members of the Oxfordshire branch of the Communication Workers Union voted unanimously to continue strike action yesterday (24.9.03) after Royal Mail management sacked two workers on Monday. When the national membership last week voted narrowly to continue negotiation rather than strike, Royal Mail management tried to impose a settlement involving 30,000 job losses. This provoked an unofficial strike in Oxfordshire last Friday (19.9.03). Postal workers consider the second strike on Monday to have been deliberately provoked by management, but are determined to remain solid in support of their sacked colleagues.

Good solid local news the Oxford IMC is becoming a real alternative to the mainstream press in its coverage.

For a really good film about how student can help workers and trade unionist by creative direct action check out this film:

What the trailer doesn’t say is that they won (: the video will be available from www.undercurrents.org soon on copyleft CD-ROM

Maybe some one would like to organise a screening?
