Funny thing about the Europeans protesting the war.....

Jess | 21.09.2003 18:05 | Anti-militarism | London

hypocritical Europeans.

Considering that you Brits are busy suppressing the catholics of Northern Ireland.
And what about French troops in Africa?
Australian troops in East Timor.
You are all hypocrites.
America won both the revolutionary war and the war of 1812.
Get over it.

imperialism, old and new.

Point taken about the hypocrosy of Europeans criticising the U.S. about imperialism. U.S. attempts to control the Middle East merely follows on from the British and French before. Also, the colonial mind-set remains amongst the elites in Europe, differing principally on those who defer to the U.S. and those who don't. However, they share the same assumptions, as illustrated by Kissingers' infamous quote "Oil is much too important a commodity to be left to the Arabs."
And bear in mind the imperialist traditions in Russia and Japan as well.
But of course, the reality is that the U.S. is presently the world's foremost imperialist power.

More clear thinking from America

"America won both the revolutionary war and the war of 1812.
Get over it."

Yes, very perceptive: we're just mad about having lost the war of 1812, that's why we're protesting against you occupying Iraq.

Looks like lots of Italians, Spaniards, Belgians, and, come to that, Americans are protesting against the occupation too. They're all just furious that Britain lost the war in 1776 and 1812.

Feel better for saying it? Good lad.

But tell me, has it occured to you that YOU just might need to "get over" losing the war in Vietnam?
