It was suicide

I've just come from the campesino march in Cancun, after talking to the Korean Farmers' League.
Lee Kyung Hae has died in hospital.
He stabbed himself in the heart with a knife in protest, saying something along the lines of farmers round the world were committing suicide as a result of the WTO's policies.
This is an unusual, if not unprecedented, form of protest in Korea. None of the Koreans who travelled here with him expected it to happen and are all shocked.

"...injured in his chest and lungs from the metal fence..."

Huh? How does anyone suffer fatal injuries from a fence? Did the guy energetically throw himself at some spikes or something? You can hardly blame that on the oppression inherent in the fencing system, surely.

Lee Kyang Hae, the head of South Korea's federation of farmers, stabbed himself to death during the protests, with a friend reported to have said his suicide was "an act of sacrifice" to show his disgust at the policies of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
