Cyclist rides to free Tibet

Karen McLinton is still a driven woman after two years cycling the planet to raise awareness about Tibetans. With 15,000 km and 13 countries under her tires -- including France, India, Laos, and Vietnam -- McLinton arrived in Toronto two weeks ago to spread her message.

The 39-year-old former insurance agent from Jersey -- an English island 64 km off the coast of France -- said she started her bike ride Aug. 27, 2001 after she fought off myalgic encephalomyelitis, commonly known as chronic fatigue syndrome.

As her "tour de world" cycled eastward through Europe and then Asia, she had an awakening when she met Tibetans living in the northern regions of India.

Her trip and work is chronicled on her Web site www.freetibetworldbikeride.co.uk.

'DIDN'T KNOW'

"I came through Europe and didn't know anything about Tibet until I arrived in India," McLinton said. "Right now I'm trying to organize a ride when I return to Europe and protest at the 2004 (summer) Olympics in Athens.

"I'm hoping to put pressure on the 2008 Chinese Games," McLinton said.

She also wants to get her message out to the Irish rockers U2 and movie star Richard Gere, who has met the Dali Lama, because of their political sway in dealing with human rights issues.

Yesterday, as she prepared to leave west-end Toronto riding toward Ottawa, she was met by a newfound Tibetan friend Lobsang Thargyal, who moved to Canada in 1999, from India.

"We believe she is sending a great message," Thargyal said, in reference to the 2,000 or so Tibetans living in Toronto.

"She is doing a very hard task and it is appreciated."

The People's Republic of China has been accused of ethnic cleansing, systematic destruction of monasteries, and religious and political suppression since it occupied Tibet 54 years ago.

to understand the sow better.

Let us stop our mass murder and systematic destruction in Iraq and the most of the world as opposed to giving publibicity to some feudal system that wants to rule over people inhumanely....not to forget massive commercialisation of 'buddhism' by this clan of jokers!

WOMAN CYCLES ROUND WORLD TO FREE TIBET

"Whatever", say Chinese.

The Onion

Onion is wrong

Do you assume that the current PRC are some mass murdering double talking police state like us?

Instead you will find them straight talking (they make no secret of the remnants of their piggy past) and progressive .

So I am very sure the chinese will say 'why can't this woman go and do something that is possible by her ...like smash up the DSEi or even try and stop the ongoing slaughter of Iraqi innocents.

The Onion is never wrong

I was agreeing with you about the pointlessness and stupidity of this happy crappy "Free Tibet" bollocks, ram, you arse!

The Onion

Onion is another idiot

03.09.2003 14:47

The fact we were agreeing in principle does not make both our comments on this sow equal you idiot.

Is 'whatever' equivalent to what I elaborated?

I have to eloborate because there are plenty of pigs and pigscum visiting this newswire so they can understand.
OK nething I can concede is you are most propably not a pig.

The Onion is disappointed

Ram, you really are a fuckwit, aren't you? You have no concept of humour or irony, and totally missed the point of the "whatever" comment, which is to point out that some Yank bird riding a bike around is hardly likely to put the wind up Beijing.

You should try reading the REAL Onion website to find out how satirical people think and talk. By and large they get their points across without this school-yard "pig" shite that you seem to think is so clever.

Jeez. Thank the goddess that people like you are utterly insignificant.

Oink oink comrade.

The Onion

What can I say Onion?

If you see piggism as satirical it is not accurate but much better than the total denial of the underlying truths.

I had a look at Onion and do not like it myself. Sorry. Thanks for the link though.
If you consider satire is your favourite way forward and are aware of some website that does this well and good.
I do not consider that grave matters like the widespread grip of fascism is something to play around with satire...probably the very reason why the Onion is not tackling most important human issues prominently.

Now do you expect me to be aware of this satire website before you inform me of it?
Do you expect me to guess from your signature that you are being satirical?

I accept that many will fail to understand me the first time around if they are not used to hearing the truth (OK , truth on causes of current world suffering) and ask you to consider that not everyone is aware of every style of expression.

Anyway the subject matter is neither me nor you.
It is not about the sow form Jersey.
It is not about the people of Tibet.
It is about us, in the UK killing and pillaging the way we have done here for centuries.
