I am a resident of Brick Lane, Whitechapel, E1. I have lived here for five years. Over those years I have been violently attacked four times. Brick's and bottles thrown at me, on allegations that I am gay (I am actually bisexual but that is none of their business) and that I am "white trash". My former boyfriend was put in hospital after being kciked to the ground by 30 youths while their parents looked on. The attacks come from Bengali (Bangladeshi) youths who are, it appears, systematically creating a non-white ghetto they call "banglatown". They do not want to integrate into our society, they do not want to mix. They consider us unclean heathen infidels (according to graffiti and stickers they put up). It is "haram" to befriend us. This propaganda is being spread by some elements in their communities. Other elements of their communities dare not speak out. The local council, Tower Hamlets is now run completely for one ethnic group's benefit. They are smart, they have all joined the Tower Hamlets Labour Party...they now are overwealmingly in charge and control membership. They select the MP. They select the local councillors for election. Now 70% of the councillors are Bengali reflecting their 50% of the population. England is a tolerant, democratic country where violence and politics do not mix. Bangladesh is not. They are bringing their policies of homophobia, racism and sexism to our country and turning the clock back. Just because they are Asian does not mean they are unable to be racist, intolerant, sexist homophobes. Recently they fire bombed the Pride of Spitalfields pub burning it down and seriously injuring the people inside. They chased a friend of mine through the streets with a knife yesterday because he looks like "a batty man". They say it stems from racism they experienced when they first emmigrated here. That does not make it right to attack me and my friends does it? I live in FEAR. I cannot express this strongly enough. I have MANY black and Asian friends...but none from the Bengali community because they will not mix. Anti-nazi people need to begin targeting the fascists like al-mouhajiroun who target non-islamic people and intimidate them. This is a tolerant country which allowed them to build mosques and madrassas and speak their own language and do anything they want...I should be allowed to do what I want in my own country. If I was a gay man in Bangladesh I would expect to get beaten to death in the streets. This is not Bangladesh, this is the United Kingdom in the year 2003 and it is high time these bigots new that.
