Workers at Tarrant Garments formed an independent trade union and struck for a profit sharing scheme at their plant in the Maquila region of Mexico.
In response, mangement sacked five key activists and threatened others. They have now sacked another 50 and are threatening to re-register Tarrant and their other factories - laying off up to 4,500 workers and avoiding paying severance pay.
