Really impressive this. Just the thing to deal with millions of looters loose on the streets of New York. I think posts like this could be describedas clutching at straws.

All the folks on the techie security lists are discussing it being caused by the Blaster worm. And that's the most believable story I've heard so far. Lightning can't take out 25 million houses, neither can large demand. And there wasn't even any lightning in the area said to be affected. I've also heard of reports of military jets flying about soon after the blackouts started - but not enough to confirm yet.
No, this was simply caused by Blaster, but Microsoft aren't going to let them announce that. And theres no way the power companies would admit to it anyway.

This is a little aside really, though one that just persuaded my computer to restart spontaneously, but you remember all those Washington beltway random killings, which weren’t so random, because when you joined up all the dots of their location on a map, they formed an inverted pentagram – at the end of which the two guys were arrested sleeping in their car in a layby.

And,just who created the BlasterWorm and why? To provide this sort of event perhaps?
Then the US Gov and its spooks can 'arrange' all sorts of mayhem ,thus further justifying
the descent into the Orwellian nightmare.
