According to the data of Soldiers' Mothers , around 12 thousand people have died in the Second Chechen War.
Valentina Mel'nikova, of Soldiers' Mothers, said that this figure includes those killed on the battlefield, those who died in hospital and those who died after going on leave. Mel'nikova noted that each Russian region during this Second Chechen war has lost more than 200 people, including soldiers, policemen and special forces operatives.
This figure would be greater were civillian and Chechen losses included, but as I understand, the remit was to establish Russian casualties in a war the Russian Authorities
says does not exist.
