Identify the logical fallacy in this argument:
- Some white people are poor
- Therefore racism does not exist

With all due respect to my academic colleague, I think you may need to develop your ability to follow an argument!

The original article reported on and protested at incidents of racism against Black people and other ethnic minorities in the US. John posted a comment pointing out (in rather sarcastic fashion) that many white people in the US are poor. Why?

Either it was meant to be a completely separate news report (which I doubt) or the point can only have been to portray the original article as one-sided.

I felt this was unfair, as the original poster had said nothing derogatory about white people or dismissive of poverty, but had simply reported their own experience of racism.

Hence I pointed out the logical nonsense of rebutting every report on racism with the (true but surely irrelevant) observation that some white people are poor.

I live in Bellingham. The people out here seem racist to me. Im one of the (less than one percent) of black people who live here. I havn't been able to keep a good job yet. The people seem kind, but racism exists on many superficial and deeper levels.
