Belarus was to play host to the Hussein family this summer.
Both Uday and the the daughters had been expected to speak at a TV conference, leading many in the February to early March period to suspect that Bylerus would be that exile destinitation of many of the Iraq Baath heirarchy.
And this belief went beyond anarko-conspiracy heads, David Fisk came on side twqo weeks into the declared War to suggest Bylerus as the exile hideaway.

Bylerus is an unpleasant totalitarian state a remnant of the Soviet Union it's people who count less than the population of London live in abject poverty and amidst the worst ambient pollution in Europe. In some ways bylerussian independence may have been encouraged as a way of putting the costs of heavy industrial clean up beyond the legislative responsiblities of Russia.

The Tehran Times did run a story of a Russian airliner containing the most important elements Of the Saddam regime and the Baathist elite being given clearance to depart from Iraq during the occupation
Belarus sounds an attractive destination
