Arriva Access Campaign

Philippa Willitts | 05.08.2003 01:51 | Health | Sheffield

Arriva Trains Northern has refused access to their trains to disabled people using motorised scooters. We are campaigning strongly against this.

 http://www.geocities.com/purplestar1uk/ArrivaCampaign.html

Natasha Gollop was recently refused access to a local train service and was told that motorised wheelchairs and scooters are no longer allowed on Arriva trains.

Various supporters of the Arriva Access Campaign have now received replies from Arriva Trains Northern who are stating that electric wheelchairs *are* allowed on their trains, it is just scooters which are not.

This is still completely unacceptable.

The Arriva Access Campaign website has been updated. You can find it at  http://www.geocities.com/purplestar1uk/ArrivaCampaign.html

Please contact Arriva, and if possible your MP, the Department of Transport, and the Minister for Disabled People Maria Eagle, to make your voices heard about this discriminatory and exclusionary policy.

Please also spread the word about this campaign. Together we can win it, I'm sure we can. We *have* to!

Write to Arriva Trains Managing Director

I would suggest writing to Arriva Trains Managing Director, Euan Cameron...

Info about him here:

 http://www.arriva.co.uk/REAL/web/Arriva/Internet/internet.nsf/0/21083783b6a9ecfb80256b350055c55a?OpenDocument

Like most fat-cat bosses, he does not publish his e-mail address, so as to avoid lots of complaints in his e-mail inbox...

However, the address is:

 euan.cameron@arriva.co.uk

corporate research

Corporate Watch does not have info under their companies list on Arriva, maybe elsewhere, try searching - we're all busy boys and girls.

Their website is www.corporatewatch.org.uk
They have a DIY research guide on it - they themselves are only a small group of dedicated grassroots campaigners, so, Do It Yourself (& then send them the info)
