RECLAIM THE BASES SUMMER CAMP : 22nd-25th AUG

Reader | 04.08.2003 13:01 | London | Sheffield

The 'The D10 Group' is organising a 'Reclaim The Bases Summer Camp',which will take place at Aldermaston (Berkshire) from 22-25 August. We envision skill sharing workshops on cutting/climbing fences, lock-ons & other forms of blockading, on bicycle actions & wool actions. We also want to exchange knowledge on military bases across the country

Aldermaston & its sister site at Burghfield, 6 miles away, are at the centre of Britain's nuclear weapons industry. Ever since the 1950s, as Britain developed the Polaris system, Aldermaston has been the 'factory' where Britain's nuclear weapons have been researched, developed, produced, & eventually decommissioned.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT THE RECLAIM THE BASES SUMMER CAMP? "The D10 group has produced a 'wish list' which we are working to make happen. We envision skill sharing workshops on cutting/climbing fences, lock-ons & other forms of blockading, on bicycle actions & wool actions. We also want to exchange knowledge on military bases across the country (Fairford, Lakenheath, St Athans, Fylingdales, Menwith Hill, Devonport, Coulport, Faslane, Northwood etc) & what role these bases play in the UK/US/NATO military structure? During the war we experienced a shortage of people who know about legal issue, so there will be workshops on how to organise legal support? The war also brought lots of new people to activism who started off being against this one war. We want to look a bit deeper & ask the questions: What is anti-militarism & non-violence? What is our analysis of militarism? What other ideas do we have about non-violent strategies? We are sure there will be a lot more ideas for workshops, but that also depends on you to make them happen!" Links:  http://www.tridentploughshares.org/  http://www.caab.org.uk/
