After two days of Bulldozer blues the police encircle the house.

Casa encantada. is in Galizia.
it is a CSO. an autonomous centre, an info shop, a squat to be proud of.
the Galizians are thus proud of it.
Galizia is the bit of the Iberian Peninsula which is above Portugal. Where Franco was born and his henchman Fraga still rules. Where the Prestige sank and Nunca Mais began.

Casa encantada people on the roof. woof woof woof.
Casa encantada people on the roof. woof woof woof.

OK this summer has not been good for the CSO (Occupied social centres) of "Spain".
this week a bulldozer turned up at Casa Encantada and took off half the facade of the building. Bad news. The Okupes rallied and the bulldozer was held at bay. The situation has been continuing to be tense and now the police are encircling the building.

for those who like to read local newspapers in foreign tongues in online versions:
todays report:
 http://www.lavozdegalicia.es/ed_santiago/noticia.jsp?CAT=123&TEXTO=1861200
and the day the bulldozer came:

for those who can do the telephone thing:

Xosé Sánchez Bugallo: 981 542 342
*Ramón Lueje: 981 543 165
add an 00-34
remember to say "casa encantada is a popular expression of contemporary culture and is famed throughout the world as being somewhere Galizians could meet and explore new avenues of escape and generally be pleasant and nice, and bulldozers really aren't the way to go" or something more apt.

the previous general media evictions of this summer:

eviction of Lab 03 in Madrid subsequent ocupation of Lab 04
 http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2003/06/71913.html
eviction of Lab 04 Madrid we await LAb 05
 http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2003/07/274214.html
eviction threatened against LesNaus BCN
 http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2003/07/274732.html

also threatened is Casa del Muntanyes BCN.

These are not "squat squats" these are places to be very proud of not just in Galizia, Catalúnya, España, but throughout Europe. THroughout the 7 million community who live in and share occupied social space.

Thank YOU for helping us Stopped the Casa Encantada Demolition!!

26.07.2003 21:05

Never Again
Never Again

Really yes, YOU and only YOU but ALL of YOU have stopped the demolition of the Casa Encantada (something like Charmed House). Now we are taking breath, catching air because the last 48 hours were probably the worst of our twelve year history of day-to-day work in an experience of sharing a XIX century squatted house to social activities.

so thank you *very* much for making the telephone callings to this very short-minded local politicians wherever you were from, because after hours (special thanks to Barcelona and EuskalHerria people) of net-activism through the Indymedia network, resistance from the roof (woof, woof ;-) and very hard legal negotiations *YOU* have stopped the demolition!!

Yes you have read it well: TWELVE years of social empowerment day-to-day work... it was very difficult to find the ways to survive, but we have found it until today. There were twelve years of teaching and learning music, marcial-arts, projected social compromised films, theatre, nuppets, working around feminism, ecologism... working about social uses of technology... going deep into the reality of the spanish jails helping people who mostly die due AIDS, we have achieved the United Nations to advertise to the spanish government about its torture practices in detentions... and more and more...

We have launched projects like the Galiza Independent Media Center ( http://galiza.indymedia.org) when we have to fight to make the world know about the worst european ecological disaster, the Prestige Oil Spill wich our governement presided by the Vitoria-Gasteiz killings responsible Mr. Manuel Fraga tryed to hide to the mass media. Tha Casa Encantada was one of the main centers of the Nunca Mais civil movement, and just an example, we have organized with the teachers collective Area Negra (Black Sand) a human-chain of more than 25.000 childrens came from all the points of Galiza around the Costa da Morte coastline wich was one of the most affected areas of the Prestige Oill Spill.

This are the reasons why now the government wants to put us away, they want to put silence about that things; and using its knowlege of legal mechanism they call the bulldozer to break our ideas... but thanks to your help, we stopped the bulldozer!

Until when? We do not know, perhaps next monday they will begin to start the administrative machinery, but now we know we are more than yesterday, because we share an international movement that no governement, no politicians, no administrative nor policial or legal machine could stop.

Thank you very much!!

Solidarity!!

The main site of the Casa Encantada was at:

 http://www.casaencantada.org/

There you'll can find (in galician and spanish language) a brief of its history ( http://www.casaencantada.org/historia/gz/hist_01.htm ) a local press dossier since 2001 (  http://www.casaencantada.org/papeis/prensa/prensa.htm ) the legal actions taked by the people of the Casa Encantada in the las three years ( http://www.casaencantada.org/desaloxo/gz/cronica.htm ) a lot of photographs ( http://www.casaencantada.org/fotos/gz/ ) made by one of the iniciatives iniciated in the Charmed House: Negativo/Positivo ( http://causaencantada.org/negativopositivo/) as well as videos ( http://www.casaencantada.org/multimed/gz/video.htm ) or a flash-game to help us join signatures to avoid the demolition ( http://www.casaencantada.org/multimed/okupa.htm)

But with the upcomming of the Indmedia project ( http://galiza.indymedia.org) and the HackLab (hacking laboratorie that works about social uses of technology) there was born a new project which is now growing called Causa Encantada (Charmed Cause) wich wants to be an evolution of the matricial Casa Encantada that wants to extend the original ideas and working areaes through the net: it is at  http://causaencantada.org/ and there you'll find information about prissons, GNU, feminism, alternative art, ecologism, self-management among others.

See you, solidarity!!
