The latest Shortwave Report (July 25) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:12) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, Radio Deutsche Welle, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- Italy’s Senate has approved Prime Minister Berlusconi to further expand his media empire. GW Bush says he’s happy that Berlusconi is the current president of the EU. Italy wants to introduce a certificate of authenticity for Italian restaurants around the world. As UN inspectors found traces of enriched uranium in Iran, there is much speculation on how this information may be used by the US.
From Spain- Israeli Simon Perez has suggested that sacred sites in Jerusalem be controlled by the UN, Lebanon fired at Israeli jets, and Syria denies US claims that it is backing terrorists. Israel’s leading civil rights group released its annual report on human rights in Israel and Palestine.
From China- EU foreign ministers gathered in Brussels to discuss the middle east peace process. Then US civil administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremmer, returned to Washington to report on progress in rebuilding the war-torn country.
From Russia- The S Korean President says US reports of new nuclear facilities in N Korea are groundless. A northern port city in Russia is getting ready to become a major hub for oil exports to the US. British Petroleum says Russia may become the world’s leading oil producer next year and that it is second only to Saudi Arabia this year.
From Germany- The European Commission has issued new guidelines on genetically-modified foods and crops in Europe, including mandatory testing and labelling.
From Cuba- Zapatista leader Marcos issued warnings Tuesday that there may soon be a showdown with right-wing paramilitaries in S Chiapas. Then the case of the British microbiologist David Kelly who apparently committed suicide after testifying to Parliament about talking to the BBC.
