Why London?All i ever hear when new sporting arenas are mentioned is this London-centric diatribe.Why not base the Olympic bid in the north or midlands less congested roads and far more frendly people are two attractions worthy of consideration.My own experiance of the so called Capital is one of a dirty smelly city inhabited by unsocial and could'nt care less human beings.Anyhow the midlands and north of England created most of the so called wealth that southerners enjoy.Bring the Olympic bid north and free your minds of this London-centric mind set.

historically, the east end of london comprises 3 boroughs. these, tower hamlets, newham and hackney rank within the 4 most impoverished areas of the uk.
there is a richness and much diversity regarding the culture and peoples of the east end. poor but very much together.
seeing the orthodox jew living amongst the the muslim of many counties, asians beside black (be they carribean or african descent). spanish, portuguese, french, italian polish, south american, you name its.
squatting is tolerated (to a large degree) and travellers of all types abound.
encroaching upon two boroughs (tower hamlets and hackney), the square mile overspills, yuppified, with indigineous (ie. the poor) displaced.
The docklands, shoreditch and aldwych already lost to money and with the olympics you add in stratford, hackney wick, homerton and bow. the very epicentre of the east end, which to many an almost spiritual home.
london is the only uk city with any sense of credibilty to be able to host the games. yes i know, glasgow and manchester, but lets be honest... they just don't compare.
for one they are removed from THE centre of population (which could well be oxford!!). half the population live in or around............ well.......LONDON actually. (surrey, hampshire, kent, essex, herts, oxon, berkshire, bedfordshire etc. etc.)
and whilst it is true that most northern folk are nice and friendly, some can reveal an awful sense of intolerance at times(how many bnp wankers elected? been to barnsley lately?).
and wouldn't it be nice to keep the roads up here (as i'm now in the north, at home!) with less congestion and reduce that which exists in the east end (hackney is readily recognised as the inner city borough with the shittiest public transport network, though the soon to come east london line extension is already driving up house prices beyond local reach) cos further investment in public transport will follow exactly where its needed. well for london at least.

yer, like all big cities london is dirty and smelly, and birmingham has more canals than venice. but so what. ever lived near t' pit, or the steelworks. or how's bout the farm with its chemical abunddance.

ironically the smelliest place i ever lived is also the norths most affluent. mobberley in cheshire; a millionaires idylic. you'd be suprised how much kerosene is ditched by planes that are landing, and of course on take off their exhaust fumes at maximum!

as a traveller the two places i'm most at home.....hackney and barcalona, and its the people that make it that way.

oppose the olympics cos its money, coca-cola, mcshite and more. or glorify and enrich an elitism which the olympic pursuit is in person.

ME! i say lets trash capitalism, ideology and division in all their petty forms and fuck the olympics. definitely not in MY borough and that goes for dsei and all!!!

Yes i do live next to a pit and ex-steel works!North and south are realy separate countries.We need our own Government in the midlands and north.We need to break away from the mindset the last writer only to well illustrated.This country as been controlled for too long by southerners give the north a try for a change.

Just a few comments about the suitability of the midlands and the north to host the olympics.Manchester hosted the commonwealth games two years ago why on earth is it not able to host the olympics?The best swimming facilities are in the north anyhow both Manchester and Sheffield have 50m olympic size modern pools.What as London to offer only a run down and delapitated pool in crystal palace.Manchester is a credibal choice also because of the track and field facilities which are already in place and only require upgraiding for a olympic event.What as London to offer only a run down dog track in a inaccesable part of the city.Liverpool also offers good venues and as also been voted european cultural city for 2008.London being well down the list for this honour.the previouse writer needs to look to the future and not live in the past century.Culturaly and ethnicaly Manchester and Liverpool have a diverse and ethnic mix making both places ideal to host the olympic games.Ps no i am not a racist.And didnt Oswald Mosely gain support for his black shirts around the east end of London?

i don't deny that north and south are really seperate countries, just as there is nothing comparable between say glasgow and the highlands.

and what the north does not need is its own government. a mix-match of graham stringer and/or aurthur scargill? but back to my mindset and the olympics. the olympics is a big multi-national capitalistic, nationalistic, fascistic delight. that's why i say to oppose it.

i never exactly said that manchester is not able to host the olympics, though it is somewhat more so than the commonwealths. it does NOT have the international credibility. pure nad simple.
and ever thought that maybe london could do with a few more facilities. it appears the north alraedy has so in abundance and unlike london not needing the olympics to see it happen.
it seems to me your line is that the north should have everything.

i love the diversity of ethnicity and culture that leeds, liverpool, manchester, huddersfield or any of a hundred northern towns i know so well. much as i do east london.
and whilst there is no denying that mosely gained support in the east end, i tend to look to the resistance (cable street for pre-war and the 43 group for after) and don't deny that mosely also enjoy support in birmingham, leeds, bristol, manchester, cardiff et al.
but most of all i do say fuck the olympics, everywhere and anywhere, as an anti-capitalist action.

Dear angry clown.Please calm down.This subject always makes me rage because everytime a new sporting bid is put in it's always London London London.Realy makes me sick and most people iassoaciate with in the north feel the same.What we need in the north and midlands is a peoples revolutionary government on the line of the Bolshevik party of 1917.Please do not associate this with the Stalanist dictatorship that came later, in 1917 Russia was governed by a truly democratic form of Socialist workers or soviets.I am in no way a racist and look forward to the day when the midlands and north break free of this southern strait jacket that as exsisted throughout the centuries.The people of the south stand no chance of breaking away from the Capitalist system because the plutocratic elites are to well entrenched there and would never give up the financial square mile.However we in the midlands and north are already somewhat distanced from these autocrates because of the dissintergration of the old industries of the north which they caused in the first place.I know that i have deviated somewhat off the topic i first introduced but i am only speaking about my own first hand experiance of the south east and i cannot help it if this truth hurts you so much.People in London and the south east are indeed living in another country and one in which i have no interest in what so ever.I have to go now however i could write much more on this vital subject.

I am sorry but that didn't quite get to me, yes, the games will cost tax payers money..
but better to use it Olympics than for another war (but then agian there will be another war anyway...so) but it will also generate money to these poor areas of London, as well as the housing that I mentioned which no one seemed to reply to...

And I also regonise that there are plenty of places outside London that are much nicer
but if they were to hold the games there would have to be much more building of stadiums and other facilities...which means more of taxpayers money....but then again many activists already claim "dole" money which is also taxpayers (like myself) money..so you can not complain about that!!!

How did you turn a discussion about Olympics to having a revolution in the North of England...that totally flew over my head...and being over 6ft tall...that means it went VERY high!!...*haah*
