had a problem listening to it on the webradio

15.07.2003 18:34

somehow it cuts me off every 1-2-3 minutes. I am very interested in the programme, but it is really frustrating looding the connection so often.
I can't find out the proper URL, and I can't access the Chat-room, and there is no alternative given.
It doesn't work with Opera, or Kopnqueror, and in Mozilla it cuts me off all the time- has anybody else the same experience?

Thanks for the feedback, ab.

I deal with some aspects of the tech side of the webcast.

Our ISP has reported to us today that we are getting errors on the line. We will try power-cycling our network devices to see if that clears the problem or else call in some technicians. Hopefully that will sort it for next week.

You can't find the proper URL of the webcast? That's because some high-tech SMIL coding has been used, I believe. Try the following:

audio - rtsp://media1.commedia.org.uk:7554/encoder/sheff_audio.rm

video - rtsp://media1.commedia.org.uk:7554/encoder/sheff_video.rm

Despite its proprietary nature, the RealMedia platform has been used as it offers excellent quality:compression ratios and has good cross-platform support.

I think that you did manage to access the chat room as we had a good natter eventually. It should work on all machines as it loads a Java applet - however, I didn't manage to get chat working under Mozilla. It does however work under IRC so you can enter these details into your favourite IRC client:

channel: #SheffieldLive
servername: irc.oftc.net
port: 6667

Agreed, the site has not been designed with cross-platform accessibility foremost in mind but I believe that they're trying to work on that - they used to have a text only site...

Anyway, thanks very much for your feedback. I'm glad that you liked the show. Hope to catch up with you next week.
