London Rising Tide strike again

London Rising Tide-er | 11.07.2003 20:43 | London

London Rising Tide strike again, this time at the head offices of EBRD: one of the two
multilateral lenders involved in financing the proposed pipeline. Officially there is a 120 day consultation period at the end of which they will either be out of the project or fully on board.

The idea is to put the pressure on them during this 120 day period, making them aware of the strength of our opposition to the pipeline per se, its route, their involvement in it and to any possible use of public money for it.

If built, the pipeline will:

- devestate vast tracts of virgin forest,
- further the interests of the "new imperialists" through placing corporate concerns above and beyond national law.
- result in the forced militarisation of the zone along the route of the pipeline,
- force people from their homes and take away their land,
- have a huge negative impact on human rights directly and indirectly in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey,
- benefit only the companies themselves at the expense of the interests of the local populations,
- feed our "oil addiction" when what we need is to kick the habit,

These are merely a few of the reasons why this proposed pipeline must not be allowed to go ahead. We have the opportunity now to stop it. This is an achievable goal. Together- we can stop it!

Protests will take place regularly outside the EBRD every thursday afternoon evening: what better way of enjoying the last of the day's sun than by getting out there and telling it like it is!

No More Blood For Oil! No Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline!
