Insufficient evidence exists to pursue charges against 16 military officers accused of inciting an uprising against Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, reports South American media (Background Report).
On Friday, the nation's attorney general announced charges have been dropped against the officers, who were accused of rebelling against the president in April 2002. It was during this insurrection that President Chavez was forced to leave his post as president, returning days later with the support of troops and protestors.
