Short chronicle of the arrests

Amidst an atmosphere of absolute media hysteria about the “vandals” of the 21st of June, in deadly silence about 250 immigrants assassinated in cold blood by the Italian marines, 27 arrested demonstrators were driven to the examining magistrate. On Tuesday the 24th the velvet glove of the Greek democratic legal system turned all minor crime charges into felonies. 19 of the arrested were set free on bail or under provisions. On Wednesday, the 7 demonstrators (two Spanish, one English, one Syrian and three Greeks) who had been charged with felonies from the start were led before the magistrate, who ordered their detention, ignoring rich visual evidence provided by the Defense. Simon Chapman(En), Fernando Perez(Es), Carlos Martin Martinez(Es), Souleiman Dakduk (Syrian) , Spyros Tsitsas (Gr) who are in prison of Diabata, and Mihalis Traikapis (Gr) and Dimitris Fliouras (Gr) who are kept in prison of Avlona.

Planned solidarity events in Greece:

The 10th of July has been set up as international solidarity day

An antiauthoritarian assembly in Thessaloniki has been set up, with standard weekly meetings which aims to:

-provide information and organize solidarity events

-arrange economic affairs for the needs of the arrested, on the level of court expenses, bail money, as well as personal expenses of detained comrades

-to create contacts with groups in Greece and abroad, and coordinate solidarity actions on an international level, as well as to communicate with comrades of the arrested abroad

-to improve the living conditions of the imprisoned comrades (with books, clothes, phone cards).

In order for the above aims to be accomplished in a responsible way, this assembly has created three subgroups: one tending to finances, one to international contacts, and one to the improvement of the everyday life of the detainees. Every subgroup has its own e-mail. The emails are  financial2003@disobey.net ,  contacts2003@disobey.net ,  solidarity2003@disobey.net

There is already a bank account for financial support at the Piraeus bank

( ac. No 5209-0164-58-443). It would be good to refer to the financial email ( financial2003@disobey.net ) every time someone deposits money to this account. Money will be collected in ways which are considered acceptable by the people participating in the assembly. If a certain group wishes to collect money in a different way, it can do so by its own initiative and under its own responsibility. Of course, the final word on such matters belongs to the comrades in prison.

If someone wants to send mail to the prisoners he must write the names of the prisoners in greek characters (the mailman in the prison can’t read english characters/there is an image attached with this article in order to know what aletter must write in order to be delivered).
