SPEAKER: Sean Cuinn, Of Short Strand, Belfast.
"The Irish Nationalist people of the Short Strand & Ardoyne have been under sustained attack from Loyalists, directly organised & linked to various paramilitary organisations. Residents have suffered petrol & blast bomb attacks as well as volleys of missiles such as bricks, bottles, fireworks, & bolts. Short Strand is a nationalist enclave containing around 3000 Catholics/Nationalist residents. They are
surrounded on 3 sides by a population of 60,000 Loyalist/Protestants.
The Short Strand has come under loyalist attack many times, but this time the Loyalists had 1 goal, to draw the Republican movement back onto the streets & into an armed confrontation, in a bid to collapse the Peace process.
In a desperate bid to highlight the daily sectarian attacks suffered by their community, the residents of Short Strand produced a documentary video of the ongoing attacks. The video was launched in Nov at the 'Troops Out Movement' speaking tour in Birmingham. The video showed night after night of attacks on the tiny nationalist enclave, the speakers from North Belfast spoke of how their families
& the lives of their neighbours had been affected by the Sectarian attacks. The 'Troops Out Movement' are organising viewings of their video, 'Short Strand: A Community Under Siege' please contact them to find out more."

A message from Peter, "For 12 yrs my country has suffered from the ravages of civil war. I came from a village in Sierra Leone named Fulaninuhun. This means 'New Village'. Since coming to England I have tried to support my village school, which has been housed within the village church, but there isn't much room. They need a new school. In my village they are crying out for simple things such as
space & textbooks. If you're not able to donate money, any simple reading books, counting books, or exercise books would be greatly appreciated instead. It doesn't matter what the quality is, as long as they are able to give these children a start."

PLACE: Kebele. 14 Robertson Rd. Easton. DIRECTIONS BELOW:

SPEAKER: Nancy Rollason. International Solidarity Movement (ISM).
"Palestinians have lived under an illegal occupation for decades. Through U.N resolutions, the nations of the world have repeatedly asked Israel to respect international law, stop brutalizing Palestinians, & end the Occupation of their land. Under the protection of its powerful ally & benefactor, the U.S, Israel has been able to continue the occupation, build illegal settlements, deny the most basic of human rights, & pursue policies aimed at removing
all Palestinians from their homeland.
Israeli violence against civilians in Palestine has worsened, & the repression of the Occupation has tightened. Many international allies of the Palestinian cause want to do more than write letters & demonstrate. They want to do something more dramatic to stop Israeli attacks on Palestinian neighbourhoods, & to stop the U.S from
massively rewarding Israel for its brutality. They want to take direct action that will oppose the Occupation & force Israel to withdraw from the West Bank East Jerusalem, & Gaza." Extract From The ISM Mission Statement
6) FAIRFORD : INDEPENDENCE DAY : FRI 4th JULY

http://www.fairfordpeacewatch.com/Map%20and%20Directions.html
INDEPENDENCE DAY & GATECRASHERS STROLL. There will be a procession from the village to the main gate of USAF Fairford, where our own 'Declaration Of Independence' will be handed in. All partygoers & gatecrashers are required to bring what they need for a good time: fancy dress, soundsystems, street theatre, musical instruments, samba
bands, party poppers, Mad Hatters, ladders etc.
The majority of aerial bombing missions on Iraq we're carried out from USAF Fairford (Gloucestershire), reducing the UK to the status of unsinkable aircraft carrier in the eyes of US foreign policy. Fairford has become the hub of the US military machine. It's therefore vital that we expose & oppose the militarisation of Fairford before the next US/UK war of aggression is decided upon.
LEGAL DISCLAIMER: Partygoers are reminded this is a peaceful demo & that the land on and around the base must be respected at all times.
DIRECTIONS TO FAIRFORD: Fairford is 6 miles east of Cirencester, 10 miles north of Swindon & 20 miles west of Oxford. Fairford is on the A417 going east to west. Or along the A361 going north to south, turning onto the A417 at Lechlade village. The A417 runs straight through Fairford Village. USAF Fairford is 20 minutes walk from
Fairford, along Horcott Rd.
PARKING: Is easiest in Mill Lane/Park Street. There's a free car park at the top of Fairford village High Street just north of the church.

7) FILM : 'JENIN JENIN' : SUN 6th JULY
Related Site: http://www.bristolpsc.freeserve.co.uk/
DATE: Sun 6th July. TIME: 1:30-3:00pm. VENUE: 'The Porter'. George St. Bath. (On the Junction Of Bathwick Hill & Sydney Buildings) DIRECTIONS BELOW:
http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=376000&Y=165000&scale=10000
"In Apr 2002 the world was shocked at apparent war crimes taking place in a refugee camp near Jenin in occupied West Bank, with journalists & foreign witnesses denied access. After the atrocity Israel refused a UN investigation. The Palestinian producer, Mohammed Bakri, made this 54-minute documentary. He says it is about 'human suffering as such - about a wounded soul, a demolished home, a felled tree, a picked flower, a broken heart'. It is not even-handed but
this is for good reason; the Palestinians' story has not been allowed to be officially recorded. This film shows suffering from a Palestinian viewpoint, & how prolonged oppression & terror has affected the hearts & minds of inhabitants of West Bank.
Bakri says he's telling the world where terror springs from, & describes the fertile ground & infrastructure that has been created where terror blossoms. It is a factual situation, a refugee camp inhabited by people who were expelled from their homes in 1948, who tried to live & get on with their lives & who have now experienced this second nakba, or tragedy. Amongst others, a girl of 12 tells her
story without fear, & how her experience nourished hatred & the wish for revenge. This sad fact confronts the viewer; what will happen to us all if in parts of the world children on a daily basis are confronted with war & violence from an early age?"

9) DEFEND : GEORGE GALLOWAY MP
http://www.labouragainstthewar.org.uk/ http://www.stopwar.org.uk/
"The Labour Party has suspended George Galloway MP. The main reason they give for this is that he described Bush & Blair as wolves & encouraged British Soldiers to disobey illegal orders in an illegal war. If his suspension continues for longer than 2-3 months he will not be eligible to be re-selected as MP for Glasgow Kelvin. There is also a parliamentary investigation taking place into the alleged accusations made by Daily Telegraph journalists, that George Galloway received large sums of money from the Iraqi regime. This is obviously the first step in expelling him from the Labour Party. His only crime being that he spoke on behalf of millions of people in this country
against the illegal, immoral & unjust war that took place in Iraq.
The attack on George Galloway is a general attack on the biggest anti-war movement this country has ever seen & that is why it is vitally important we do all that we can to defend him. Already the witch-hunt against him is unravelling. A report in the Mail on Sunday, 11 May,
revealed the newspaper has uncovered evidence that documents
incriminating the MP are forgeries."
Bristol-Stop-The-War supports George Galloway against this witch-hunt & we would strongly urge you to write/phone/fax David Triesman (Labour Party General Secretary) demanding that Mr Galloway's suspension is lifted immediately. 10) NEWS : HUNGER & SECURITY - GLOBAL KILLER
Full Story: http://www.counterpunch.org/carlsen06122003.html
"Hunger is a slow, quiet killer. It does not make loud explosions. It does not crumble tall buildings. It kills mostly children, whose voices are small & weak. No wonder it took a back seat to terrorism at the G8 annual meeting held June 1-3 in Evian, France. The political leaders did discuss important trade & global economy issues, but the U.S. ensured that its security agenda was the central
focus. President Chirac, the summit's host, invited leaders of 12 developing countries to participate in a 'broadened dialogue' at G8. Predictably, however, the rich & famous stole the spotlights. The press concentrated on picking up the French barbs & Texan snubs that characterized the 3 day meeting, reporting more on who chatted with whom in the post-Iraq political sphere than on substantive issues.
Lula da Silva, Brazil's working class president, raised the issue of world hunger. On the 1st day of the summit Lula proposed a plan to create an international hunger fund. He mentioned 2 possibilities for financing the fund: a tax on international arms sales & reinvestment of part of indebted nations' interest payments. The 1st 'would have advantages from economic & ethical points of view' while the 2nd
would help reverse the net outflow of capital caused by servicing the huge foreign debt of developing countries. Lula noted that hunger is inextricably related to security. 'I am convinced there will not be economic development without social sustainability. without both, we
will live in a world that is less secure each day. It is in the space of social inequality that resentment, crime, drug trafficking & terrorism, prosper."
In Brazil 46 million people survive on less than a dollar a day. Malnutrition is widespread. In Central America the UN World Food Program calculates that 690,000 people require food aid as a result of drought & low international coffee prices. In Haiti a UN rep warned of 'the risk of losing an entire generation to hunger.' The Brazilian president called for 'structural solutions' in which wealthy nations fully participate. Lula, & UN Secretary General Kofi
Annan, stressed the need to reduce developed country subsidies, especially in agriculture. Subsidies have been viewed as a major source of inequity in international trade. Another major demand was to provide medicines to patients in developing countries, where curable or controllable diseases kill millions who could be saved
through access to existing drugs.
Too bad nobody was listening. Developing country issues in general, remained way off the radar of press & politicians alike. The final G8 statement emphasized 'the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction' & 'the spread of international terrorism.' Counter-terrorism activity was spelled out at length. Meanwhile, the part of the statement regarding trade reiterated the need to 'strengthen
existing WTO rules & disciplines', but there were no commitments to subsidy reduction or reform by the G8 industrialized countries. Nor was there progress on access to essential medicines. Hunger? In the time it took to read this 630 people died of hunger in the world. One hopes there were no were no deaths from terrorist attacks in the same 3 minutes. But if there were, they would have at least gained world attention." LAURA CARLSEN. 12.06.03. Counterpunch.

"If you go to one demonstration and then go home, that's something, but people in power can live with that.
