When they are rough times in Bristol’s autonomous scene, a TV program on local squatting to be screened in tonight’s program, we’ve heard with sadness about the eviction of El Laboratorio, one the most inspiring examples of collective anarchism. From Bristol our solidarity: La lucha continua!!
After long time living under the threat of eviction, El Laboratorio of Madrid has finally been evicted. The national Spanish police entered the building making arouund 100 people homeless. However, the struggle continues, as the okupas were shouting this morning: ‘an eviction, another occupation’. A demo has already been organised for tonight (Monday 9th June). El Laboratorio was squatted 1 year and a half ago (8th February 2002)- it had been empty for 21 years! The eviction notice was for last May 14th and since this was issued, the occupiers locked themselves up in the centre to resist the eviction. Labo 03 was a thriving centre where round 100 people lived. You can check out their web page to see what was going there: art, gigs, photography, café, and loads of solidarity activities. For anyone believing in anarchism and autonomous culture, El Laboratorio is an inspiration. We just hope that the movement doesn’t lose momentum and keep on organising themselves so well.

“The Amparo 103 Street building didn’t have owners for many years. Now, it’s run by a self-organised and un-ruled mob - a mob who is radically creative, autonomous and rebellious against speculation and the money’s murderous power. […] We’re not leaving, we’re many and we’re gonna prevent it by a thousand of ways. As the metropolitan Indians used to say at the end of the seventies: ‘to conspire means to breath collectively. And we refuse to stop breathing’.”
