Dear Tony, Expressing regret is not enough...

No 10 regret on war dossier....
If Blair is questioned on the issue, he will concede that mistakes were made.

Number 10 officials now admit that the second dossier, which was largely culled from a 13-year-old thesis by a Californian PhD student, is damaging the Government's case for war against Iraq.

No 10 regret on war dossier

The Observer

Downing Street is to express regret about the fundamental flaws in the second 'dodgy dossier' on Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction.
Senior Whitehall sources told the Observer that the officials who will be called before the Intelligence and Security Committee inquiry into the weapons issue will say that the second dossier on Saddam's history of deception undermined public trust in government information.

If Blair is questioned on the issue, he will concede that mistakes were made.

Number 10 officials now admit that the second dossier, which was largely culled from a 13-year-old thesis by a Californian PhD student, is damaging the Government's case for war against Iraq.

The dossier was published last February to coincide with Blair's 'war summit' with President George Bush in Washington. A week later it was revealed to be a mish-mash of intelligence reports, student work and publicly available briefings by Jane's Intelligence Review . None of the document acknowledged the sources, leaving the impression that it was all based on fresh intelligence.

One government figure admitted that it was used to fill a 'political vacuum' ahead of Colin Powell's presentation on the weapons to the United Nations Security Council.

Officials hope that admitting errors over the second dossier will strengthen their case on the first dossier, published last September which has been the subject of allegations that it was 'sexed up' to make a stronger case for war.

Although officials will admit that there are some 'serious questions' about claims in the first dossier that Saddam was trying to procure nuclear material from Niger - the claims were based on crudely forged documents - they will say that Number 10 relied on security analysis. .....

Bomb Canada then!

Realist: What evidence do you have that Iraq had such weapons let alone that it was going to bomb a terrorist attack? Are you seriously suggesting that it was fair enough to bomb Iraq back into the middle ages merely on the grounds of "just in case".

Might as well attack Canada by that logic.

PS You'd do well to check out Scott Ritter's testimony to Iraq's complete lack of any such weapons.

PPS What may I ask do you think you're trying to achieve on this website? You reckon you're going to bring us around to your far-right wing fundamentalism, or is just some masochistic tendency?

A challenge, whynot?

I wonder, realist, do you have any opinions of your own? why not post a short essay on this site, apparising your views on the world generally, maybe some issues that are NOT covered extensivley in the right wing press? Then all cann read your view of the world and finally ascertain whether it is considered and well thougt out, or merely a clone of the ideas put foreward by the corporate press.

Enguarde!

Realist.. its about truth, ......

Inventing stories, pre-emptive attacks on false basis, ignoring international law... there is no basis for attack as will be determined at Blair's trial.
It also helps to bear in mind that it was the covert and illegal help by the CIA that got Saddam into power by way of a murderous coup d'etat against a government that originally gained power by legal means.. an election even.
There was then further stimulus by the CIA to begin the Iran war and the US sold weapons to both sides. Millions died.

There can't really be someone that silly. They are just playing, with some perverted sense of humour.. displays a mental age of 8 in terms of social relating, and they should get good marks in their next spelling test. Of course this does not mean that I insult children.. most children do not have the perversion that this one displays. We must remember to try be understanding and hope they can get help before they grow up seriously damaged and commit anti-social acts.
