"Fires On The Lake"

All times are local times

03:30am The city is quiet. Earlier reports of burning shops refer to a BMW dealership, and a neighbouring ELF petrol station that caught fire but was not too badly damaged. Reports of explosions appear to be mistaken. The VAAAG media centre is without an internet connection, and the Intergalacticque media centre is jammed with people filing reports (watch those newswires!). No word yet on arrests or injuries. The first blockades are set to go at 5:00am Geneva time.
02:00am: people are going to sleep since tomorrow they have to get up early.
01:40am: Just before the police went to the usine [a media centre in a legalized squat], they got out of their cars and then they run straight to the l'Usine. Ten minutes of violent fighting between black bloc and police.
01:15am: Reports of burning shops and some had its windows broken. When the police started to block the streets near the usine... Confirmed that more police are going in the direction of l'Usine. All streets are blocked and there are many police cars.
01:07am: Police are retreating towards Geneva's shopping centre. A team of 30-40 riot police with one water cannon are situated at the lower streets. The situation seems calmer now (read report in French). From the radio stream, we hear that the police are still everywhere around the Usine social centre but further down on the streets. People are going to sleep preparing to get up early tomorrow.
00:41am:  The actions continue in geneva, streets are closed and some cars appear burning. Longemalle place, in the town centre, are being clumped together. Police has not  made any frontal attacks.
00:40am: a large number of police and military vans at Coulounvroniere bridge, civil police walking and riding motorcylcles

00:34am:  One injured demonstrator and three
arrests
00:20am At Usine, the police have left and there are 200-300 people sitting, drinking, socializing quietly.
21-23.00pm - Geneve: a petrol station is on fire. We can hear the explosion in indymedia radio stream. Then police release tear gas. Reports of burning cars. Two water cannons and 250 cops have surrounded the usine squat, where lots of international activists are staying. Seems there are no arrests but there is minor streetfight. There are police checkpoints all over the city, arresting any one who "looks funny". Click here for details.
22:30am - The Lake is fire
8:20pm - Reports just came in that the border between Geneva and Anamasse is due to close tonight ahead of tomorow's demonstrations and blockades .
5:00pm - The first G8 delegations are expected to arrive at Geneva airport tonight between 6:00 and 7:00pm. Blockades are being called. [Report].
3:30pm - 3 police busses (at least one of them with german police) have taken positions in the highway between Geneva and Lausanne near the town of Coppet, prepared and waiting for possible blockades tonight.
1:30pm - 2 busses full of german police just arrived at Lausanne. They're stationed outside the main police station.
