Manchester People's Assembly

A Manchester Anarchist | 05.06.2003 14:59

This conference is called by Manchester Stop the War. We want to learn lessons from the anti-war movement and to see if the people that it brought together can keep together; not just opposing the was and occupation, but on wider issues. We hope to link into the network of assemblies and forums that are springing up across the UK and the world.

Manchester People's Assembly

Sick of politicians' lies? Let's shape our own future!

This is an opportunity to discuss alternatives to the current system, where governments drop bombs on children to satisfy the greed of multinational corporations. The theme of the People's Assembly is real democracy -- how do we get control over our own lives. This means that the assembly istelf will be a democratioc forum, aimed at giving a voice to the most people possible.

This is a chance for everyone to have their say: community groups, trade unionists, school students, anti-racist and anti-fascist groups, environmental campaigns, black organizations and anyone else who wants to make a difference.

We want this Assembly to be as broad and inclusinve as possible.

On the day there will be various small workshops and discussions, plus an autonomous space, set up and run by young people. The final session will include reports from the workshops, general debate and also announcements of upcoming events.

Come along. Tell your friends. Help make it a success!

There will be another People's Assembly in a few months time. Would you like to help organize it? Please get in touch.
