INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE

JUNE 5, 2003 – 11AM - HUWARRA CHECKPOINT – NABLUS

On June 5, 2003, the thirty-sixth anniversary of the Israeli
occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, the community of Nablus, joined
by members of the International Solidarity Movement, will demonstrate
at the Huwarra checkpoint to protest the continuous violence
perpetrated by the Israeli Occupation Forces [IOF] against
Palestinian communities and international human rights workers in
Occupied Palestine. This non-violent, civil demonstration will be
primarily comprised of members of the medical, educational, legal,
journalist, civil and human rights organizations of Nablus.
Significant support will also provided by community members who have
been severely injured as a direct result of IOF violence against a
civilian population.

This march will emphasis the repeated demands for an end to:
–the Israeli Occupation of Palestine [as defined by UNSC resolution
242]
–the arrest, torture and killing of the Palestinian population
–the arrest, deportation and killing of journalists and human rights
observers
–the confiscation of Palestinian land and water resources, and the
destruction of homes
–the construction of an apartheid wall

American ISM Volunteers Freed from Prison!
Tulkarem
Radhika
30 May 03

American ISM volunteers Mike Johnson, age 52, from Seattle,
Washington, and Mateo Bernal, age 22 from Louisville, Kentucky were
released from Maaseyahu Prison today, May 30 at approximately
4:45PM. The men have until June 7 to leave Israel.

The two Americans have been in prison since Saturday May 24 when they
were detained by Israeli Forces after escorting schoolgirls home
during an invasion of the Tulkarem Refugee camp. The men—one of whom
reported being threatened with physical violence by prison guards for
his involvement with the ISM—have been held in separate cells. The
men stated that although their week in prison was tough, their time
spent in Occupied Tulkarem monitoring Israeli Forces' human rights
violations was much more difficult.

The ISM sincerely thanks Rabbis for Human Rights, Shelly Niatiz,
Dorothy Naor and Amos Gzritz for their help in freeing Mike and
Matteo.
