Evian an Thessaloniki Solidarity in Berlin

Actions and Demos in Berlin in Solidarity with those arrested in Thessaloniki and Evian.

On Monday 23rd June the Greek Consulate in Berlin was occupied by a small group of people who demanded that faxes be sent to various departments in the Greek government with the following demands.

1) That all those arrested in connection with the demos against the EU Summit in Thessaloniki be immediately released.
2) That torture and mistreatment stops immediately.
3) That all charges are dropped.
4) That no deportations take place.
5) That no further arrests are made.
A banner was hung from the balcony saying "Your democracy smells like tear gas - Free the Prisoners" and the Greek flag was replaced by a pirate flag. Flyers were distributed outside explaining why the action was taking place, and there was some TV, Radio and Newspaper coverage. All the occupiers were arrested, charged with Trespass and release 8 hours later.

On Friday there was a Rally in front of the Greek Embassy in Berlin, with around 45 people. The same demands were handed to the Ambassador. We had intended to hold a demonstration to the Swiss Emabssy to highlight the repression in Evian against those demonstrating against the G8 Summit, but it was forbidden by the police as the demo was too small. Demands were hand delivered to the Swiss Emabssy by two people to demand, amongst other things, the dropping of charges against those who took place in the Aubonne Bridge action, and that an investigation be initiated into the cutting of a rope from which two activists were hanging as part of a motorway blockade.

Money is being collected to help support those still imprisoned in Thessaloniki, and hopefully actions will continue.

Solidarity is a weapon.
