people are being arrested and stopped as trying to leave the city of Thessaloniki.

After the concentration took place, disturbances erupted all around the city.
Still, at this point, one can see everywhere in the city, the lights from the firemen extinguishing fires. People who have tried to leave the city have been stopped by the police.
Some comrades had an argument with undercover police, when they were identified by them, and have been severely beaten up and arrested...
The city is full of undercover police that are following people around and photographing everybody. There are 68 arrested people, but throughout the day most people have been released and now there is 37 people left in custody. In this group there are 2 people with Spanish citizenship; and the comrades have told us that they have been violently beaten up. They speculate that the Greek government does not want problems with "international" people and it could be possible they could be release without charges or less charges.

Thessaloniki: The appointment to review of remand in custody postponed
22.06.2003 22:25
Up to now at 21.19 greek time the public prosecutor has not appeared yet.The lawyers and jugdes are present.
The press is excluded.
As soon as the public prosecutor will arrive, it will be clarified in an informal conversation if and what charges can be raised at all.
At the preliminary conversation representatives of the Republican Lawyers Association from Germany, the European Human Rights Representation and a Catalan Lawyers Association take part.
As was discovered in conversations of the arrested with their lawyers that several of the arrested are under age, they requested the exclusion of public, as they don't have any trust in the commercial mainstream media and can protect their mandates best this way.
The appointment to review of remand in custody shall be postponed untill tomorrow. Untill now 29 arrested shall be brought in front of the magistrate. Everything else will probably be decided tomorrow.
We try to find out what will be happening to the ones, who have been arrested during today..
